Course Overview

The Food Safety Course Level 1 is an NEA-approved food safety course designed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in maintaining proper food hygiene and safety. This basic food hygiene course covers key areas such as personal hygiene, safe ingredient handling, proper food storage, and cleaning of utensils, equipment, and storage spaces.

Through this course, learners will also gain the ability to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures during food handling. Ideal for food handlers across various sectors, the course ensures compliance with food hygiene standards in Singapore. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a valuable food safety certification enhancing their employability in Singapore’s F&B industry.

Course Objectives

Preparing food for sale in SFA-licensed food establishments requires attending to and passing Food Safety Course (FSC) Level 1.

  • Equip participants with essential food safety knowledge and practical skills.
  • Ensure adherence to food hygiene standards in various food service environments.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards in food preparation.
  • Use safe ingredients and store food properly.
  • Promote a safe and sanitary food environment.

Pre-requisites

Candidates must be in proper dress code and adhere to the following when attending the class:

  • Do not wear slippers
  • Do not wear accessories/jewelry
  • Do not wear nail polish or fake fingernails
  • Keep fingernails short and clean
  • Keep long hair tied back and in a tidy condition

The admission requirements are:

  • Read, write, and speak English at WPL Level 4
  • Manipulate numbers at WPN Level 4

  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses.
  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments and attain 100% competency.
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria.

SkillsFuture Credit:

  • Eligible Singapore Citizens can use their SkillsFuture Credit to offset course fee payable after funding.

UTAP:

  • This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP).
  • NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP.

Absentee Payroll (AP) Funding:

  • $4.50 per hour, capped at $100,000 per enterprise per calendar year.
  • AP funding will be computed based on the actual number of training hours attended by the trainee.
  • Note: Courses / Modules under Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) will not be eligible for AP funding claim.
