“Open yourself to more opportunities by embracing challenges and changes,” says Mr Firman.

Mr Firman, who turns 35 this year, is currently doing deliveries on a part-time basis. Previously doing insurance sales for the past 13 years, he realised that he needs to pursue something he is interested in – safety.

Firman knew that he could not move on to his passion without proper certifications and qualifications. After much exploration and encouragement from his family and friends, he decided to take the leap and took up Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) courses from NTUC LearningHub (LHUB) to upgrade himself.

“Learning wasn’t easy as I was out of school for a while. I struggled initially, but thanks to LHUB’s pool of dedicated trainers whom have helped me a lot through my learning journey,” shared Firman.

One of the trainers who Firman met was Mr Munusamy J Kumar. Firman said: “Mr Munusamy is very engaging, and used real-life examples to relate the concepts. This is very helpful for learners like me who do not have prior experience in WSH.”

Firman put in extra effort to learn, and his hard work finally pays off. He has completed the WSQ Advanced Certificate in WSH and is currently looking for a Safety Coordinator role, where he could put what he learned into use. He would like to take this opportunity to encourage career switchers to come forward and embrace changes. “Don’t be afraid to change. Take the first step and move on, pursue something you like. It is never too late to learn. It can be done with determination and perseverance,” shared Firman.
