The demand for healthcare and social services is expected to increase with the prevailing ageing population issue in Singapore. To help seniors age well and live fulfilling lives, NTUC LearningHub (LHUB) introduced a new series of WSQ eldercare courses to equip learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to help meet these challenges for seniors.
NTUC LearningHub conducted its first “WSQ Assist Clients To Meet Basic Hygiene Needs” class in January. In addition to theoretical concepts, learners had the opportunity to practise what they learnt in the class. These practice-oriented and experiential learning approaches helped the learners take away important skills such as providing basic care to the elderly and assisting them in their daily needs.
One of our participants, Mr Wee Kok Boon shared,
“The course is really insightful and informative as we learnt useful skills on how to take care of our elderly parents at home. The hands-on practical lessons not just reinforced our learning, but also give us the opportunity to learn from each other.”
Besides taking up the course to help family members, another participant, Ms Suriana shared that this course would also benefit one who wishes to give back to the society.
“I came across elderly who do not have the ability to take care of themselves. With the aim of helping them, I decided to come for this course to learn more and hopefully one day, I can give back to the society with I learnt and help those who needs me.”
NTUC LearningHub will be having more courses in the area of eldercare, so stay tuned and find out more on our courses.
