Course Overview
This course has been specifically designed for learners without a background in the Community and Social Services (Client Services) Eldercare industry.
The course content and examples are designed to provide entry-level care workers with advanced skills for safe caring of elderly clients requiring enhanced hygiene, elimination, and perineal care needs, as well as feeding assistance for elderly clients both in the day-care centres and at the homes of the elderly clients. Learners will be guided through a practice-oriented and experiential learning process to become more aware and experience the true meaning of what it takes to:
- Provide care to senior clients using the person-centred care approach
- Assist these senior clients to meet their enhanced hygiene needs and to perform their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) in a safe and comfortable manner. Such ADLs include hygiene activities like bathing and tooth-brushing, toileting, and feeding

Course Objectives
At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
- Assist client with hygiene activities
- Assist client with elimination and perineal care activities
- Assist client with feeding activities

GCE ‘N’ Level English (Min. Grade C6)

Course Outline
Part 1: Assist client with hygiene activities
- Carry out proper preparation before assisting senior clients in hygiene activities
- Explain clearly and communicate effectively to senior clients about the planned hygiene activities
- Protect clients privacy and dignity and ensure person-centred care while carrying out the hygiene activities
- Ensure senior clients safety and comfort after the hygiene activities
- Dispose of waste and reinstate work area in accordance with regulatory requirements and guidelines
- Report hygiene activities and highlight any abnormalities observed in clients condition
Part 2: Assist client with elimination and perineal care activities
- Carry out proper preparation before assisting senior clients with elimination and perineal care activities including care of a client with urine bag/stoma and diaper care
- Explain clearly and communicate effectively to senior clients about the planned elimination and perineal care activities and be sensitive to their feelings about it
- Assist client into a comfortable position for elimination and perineal care activities
- Protect clients privacy and dignity and ensure person-centred care while carrying out the elimination and perineal care activities
- Assist client in cleansing relevant areas of the body in accordance with hygiene standards
- Dispose of waste and reinstate work area in accordance with regulatory requirements and guidelines
- Record and report details of clients urine output, faecal irregularities and any other abnormalities
Part 3: Assist client with feeding activities
- Carry out proper preparation before assisting senior clients with feeding activities
- Explain clearly and communicate effectively to senior clients about the planned feeding activities
- Assist client into a comfortable position for feeding activities
- Protect clients privacy and dignity and ensure person-centred care while carrying out the feeding activities
- Dispose of consumable items in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements and guidelines
- Dispose of waste and reinstate work area in accordance with regulatory requirements and guidelines
- Report feeding activities and highlight any abnormalities observed in clients condition
Certificate Obtained and Conferred by
Upon completion of the course, a Statement of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) will be issued.
