What do Systems Administrators Do?

As technology advances, information systems and technology are essential to business success. Systems administrators, or SysAdmins are often on staff to ensure all systems have secure connections and perform smoothly to serve the needs of its employees. These technical experts perform day-to-day maintenance and repairs, including software and computer installations and upgrades, routine automation, security maintenance, troubleshooting, training, and technical support for all users and projects of the organisation.

Average Salary:

  • Junior Network Engineer: $3,734 per month1

  • Network Engineer: $4,586 per month2

According to IMDA’s Annual Survey on Infocomm Media Manpower 2019, Network & Infrastructure related roles such as Systems Administrator, Network Engineer, accounted for 17% of the total demand for Infocomm professionals. What are the skills required for this role

Functional / Technical Competencies

  • Minimum Diploma in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics related discipline
  • Be able to speak, listen, read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills Workforce Skills Qualification (ES WSQ) Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6
  • Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES WSQ Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 6
  • Well versed in all Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook

Student Schedule

This is a full-time training programme conducted over 9 months. The first 6 months comprise of a combination of instructor-led classroom / virtual training, self-paced E-learning and hands-on projects. In the last 3 months, participants will work on capstone projects(s) and as well as prepare for certification exams.
