Course Overview

WSQ Apply Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) in Construction Sites is a mandatory WSH training course for all workers working in the construction industry. Construction workers are required to go through the course before they start work.

Course Objectives

At the end of the programme, you will be able to:

  • Identify your own roles and responsibilities in a construction job
  • Follow safe work procedures
  • Adopt relevant risk control measures when Working-at-Height and respond to fire emergencies

Pre-requisites

These are the admission requirements:

  • Must be above 18 years of age
  • Have employment status as manual labour to carry out construction work in building and engineering construction worksites
  • Be medically fit
  • Be able to listen, read, speak and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills (ES) level 2
  • Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills (ES) level 2
  • Have good organisational skills
  • Be able to follow written and oral work instructions

Course Outline

Part 1: Identify own roles and responsibilities as an employee in a construction job

  • Identify legal obligations in WSH requirements
  • Identify own rights and responsibilities under WSH legal requirements
  • Identify own rights and responsibilities under the Employment Act and Workplace Injury Compensation Act

Part 2: Follow safe work procedures in construction work

  • Identify safety signs in a construction site
  • Identify common workplace hazards in a construction site
  • Identify relevant risk control measures to be implemented according to organisational procedures
  • Follow Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedure according to organisational procedures
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) according to organisational procedures

Part 3: Follow safe Work-at-Height procedures

  • Identify hazards when Working-at-Height
  • Identify relevant risk control measures implemented to mitigate the hazards when Working-at-Height according to safe work procedures
  • Check Work-at-Height equipment and safety devices according to safe work procedures
  • Wear the appropriate PPE correctly for Working-at-Height according to safe work procedures
  • Identify designated work access at scaffold structure in accordance with industrial guidelines
  • Demonstrate the correct method of ascending and descending scaffold structure using appropriate vertical lifelines according to approved Work-at-Height Code of Practice
  • Demonstrate the correct method of 100% tie-off according to approved Work-at-Height Code of Practice
  • Demonstrate the correct method of traversing across the scaffold work platforms using horizontal lifeline or equivalent according to approved Work-at-Height Code of Practice

Part 4: Respond to fire emergencies

  • Follow fire evacuation procedures based on an incident at the site in accordance with organisational firefighting procedures
  • Identify the correct types of fire extinguishers to use in the event of a fire
  • Apply the correct techniques to extinguish a fire according to established organisational firefighting procedures

Safety Pass from NTUC LearningHub.

Note: Validity of the Safety Pass is subjected to the years of working experience in related industry within Singapore. If you have more than 6 years of experience, you will receive 4 years validity, and 2 years validity for less according to the Worker Training Record.
