Course Objectives

This course equips the security personnel with knowledge and skills to be able to contribute to the management of security incidents and apply them to the work place.

Pre-requisites

Participants with the following competency ratings from the Employability Skills are eligible:

  • Listening/Speaking   Min. Level 6
  • Reading/Writing   Min. Level 6
  • Numeracy  Min Level 5

Course Outline

Establish the various types of security incidents

  • Identify the different types of incidents, which may be major (involving government agencies) or minor (does not involve government agencies)
  • Identify the appropriate actions to take that are relevant to the security supervisors work site
  • Obtain, review and evaluate all sources of information relevant to the Incident
  • Immediately assess the severity, scope and scale of incidents and establish the causes of action to be taken
  • Determine work resources required for managing the incident
  • Plan and dispatch personnel to the incident site according to organisational procedures
  • Instruct, direct staff to their assigned tasks at the incident site and supervise them at all times

Deal with minor incidents (not involving authorities) at site

  • Determine the different types of minor incidents which may include Incidents relating to equipment damage
  • Promptly respond to minor incident without delay as the first officer at the scene of incident to take command and control of situation
  • Determine manpower, equipment required at the scene of incident
  • Muster sufficient resources, such as manpower and equipment, in consultation with manager or appropriate person
  • Report to operations control room at all times
  • Accurately follow instructions provided by manager or appropriate person, if any, and react accordingly
  • Deploy manpower to manage cordon of the area and handle crowd control and secure location at all times
  • Report to operations control room at all times with update of current situation

Deal with major incidents (involving authorities) at site

  • Determine the different types of major incidents
  • Promptly respond to incident without delay as the first officer at the scene of incident to take command and control of the situation
  • Report to appropriate person and accurately follow instructions provided
  • Determine and monitor manpower, equipment required at scene of incident
  • Conduct appraisal of areas and situation such as road traffic, corners, suspicious activity and personnel to obtain accurate information and details to assist the authorities
  • Muster sufficient resources, such as manpower, equipment, in consultation with manager or appropriate person
  • Before arrival of the authorities, secure incident site at all times, such as cordoning area, crowd control
  • Report to operations control room at all times with update of current situation
  • Ensure own and public safety is not compromised in the management of a major incident
  • Work with client to identify persons who can assist in the investigation and determine their contact details

Submit incident report and attend to post-incident activity

  • Organise information gathered in a systematic manner for ease of understanding and review
  • Clarify with team members on items of information that are ambiguous or doubtful
  • Review the items of information gathered
  • Organise and prioritise information in a systematic manner
  • Submit information gathering report in required report format and written in clear and concise manner to appropriate person in accordance with organisational reporting procedures and specified timeline of report submission
  • Provide clarification with appropriate person, if required, on details in the submitted report
  • Provide assistance at all times to the appropriate person at all times where follow-up of an incident is required
  • Store approved report in accordance

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

Statement of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) will be issued for each module graded competent. SOA reflected as SEC-ICM-3003-1.1 Incident Response.
