Mode of Assessment

All trainees for Workplace Literacy (WPL) are required to sit for a Pre-WPLN Assessment to evaluate their language proficiency levels before they are recommended to the different levels for class. After the completion of the training, all trainees are required to sit for a Post WPLN Assessment to assess their improvements. The assessments are computer-based tests for each skill (i.e. fixed form, not computer-adaptive).

• Unemployed individuals who intend to gain employment • Individuals who are looking for positive in-employment outcomes/ better job performance/ expansion in job scope • Individuals who need to equip themselves with the English Literacy and Numeracy skills required in order to perform at the workplace

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, learners will be able to use English to

  • Grasp the main ideas of complex text in both abstract and concrete terms on an extended scope of subjects;
  • Write in complete sentences to report, explain, negotiate and justify in workplace and other context; and
  • Write using appropriate formats (genres) to facilitate an exchange of information

Pre-requisites

  • Pre-WPLN Assessment to evaluate their language proficiency levels before they are recommended to the different levels for class.
  • Modalities to be taken for Assessment: Reading, Listening, Speaking (including Core Grammar and Vocabulary)

The assessments are computer-based tests for each skill (i.e. fixed form, not computer-adaptive).
