Course Objectives

On completion of this course, trainee will have the knowledge and application skills to perform security operations with legal framework and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include identifying roles and responsibilities of security personnel, to comply with security services contract, legislative and regulatory requirements, apply understanding of security officer’s rights and responsibilities within the legislative (Penal Code/ CPC) and the Private Security Industry Act (PSIA) 2007 and related regulations.

Pre-requisites

The admission requirement is:

  • Minimum secondary 2 education

OR

  • Participants with the following competency ratings from the Employability Skills are eligible:
    • Listening/Speaking Min. Level 4
    • Reading/Writing Min. Level 4
    • Numeracy Min. Level 4

OR

  • Participants may also be required to undergo a pre-qualifying test during registration

OR

  • Participants who have taken WSQ Basic Licensing Units (Handle Security Incidents & Services and Provide Guard & Patrol Services either under WSQ or NSRS) are also eligible

Course Outline

Identify roles and responsibilities of security personnel

  • Identify areas of responsibilities of a security officer within the security agency
  • Confirm written employment contract with employer
  • Understand security agency’s liabilities to clients when security officer does not perform work according to his job roles and responsibilities documented in employment contract
  • Demonstrate understanding of roles and responsibilities of key personnel within security agency
  • Articuate requirements under the Private Security Industry Act (PSIA) 2007

Comply with security services contract

  • Identify  the scope of work and constraints in carrying out job roles in different types of premises
  • Demonstrate understanding of security officer’s work in client’s premises
  • Understand consequences and impact of security officer’s behaviour due to breach of contract

Apply understanding of security officer’s rights and responsibilties at work

  • Interpret basic common penal code offences
  • Interpret criminal procedure code (CPC)
  • Understand basic criminal procedure
  • Explain security officer’s legal responsibilities and need for discretion when carrying out duties of arrest
  • Explain how one can prevent defamation consequences for wrongful accusations

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

Statement of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) will be issued for each module graded competent. SOA reflected as SEC-SOP-1011-1.1 Security Operation Compliance.
